Short Bio: Baek-Young Choi is a Professor of Computer Science in the College of Engineering and Computing at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T). She joined Missouri S&T in Fall 2025 after serving for twenty years on the faculty at the University of Missouri–Kansas City. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Her research interests broadly span networking and communications, with specific emphasis on the Internet of Things, network and cloud systems, cybersecurity, and smart city technologies. She has published five books and more than 150 research papers in leading journals and conferences. Dr. Choi has been a faculty fellow with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory’s Visiting Faculty Research Program (AFRL-VFRP), and Korea Telecom’s Advanced Institute of Technology (KT-AIT), and has held an invited position at Seoul National University. She has served as an associate editor for several journals, including the IEEE Internet of Things Journal, Elsevier Journal of Computer Networks, Springer Journal of Telecommunication Systems, and the IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine. Her work has received multiple Best Paper, Best Video, and Best Poster awards. She has delivered keynotes, tutorials, and numerous invited talks, and has served as a general chair, technical program co-chair, and in many other organizational roles for international conferences and workshops. She is a Senior Member of ACM and IEEE and a past Chair of Women in Communications Engineering (WICE) in the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc). Currently, she serves as an IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Lecturer, Associate Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Communications Magazine, Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Sister & Related Societies Committee, and a member of the IEEE ComSoc GLOBECOM/ICC Technical Content and Financial Committees.
